The NHL has announced that it is removing the “malpractice” section from its Player and Employee Handbook, a move that will affect players and employees from May 18 through June 6.
According to NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly, the league is following the recommendations of a panel of independent physicians that examined all aspects of the revised injury definition.
The revised injury category will be implemented on July 12.
The revised definition will be made available to the media on the day of the NHL’s annual awards banquet in New York City, which is scheduled for Sunday, June 7.
The league will provide a complete breakdown of the new injury definitions on its website at nhl.com/rules and in the media at a later date.
