The number of medical malsuit cases in Canada has soared to an all-time high in 2018.
According to a report from Mercer, the number of cases of medical liability in Canada rose by 27 per cent to 5,979.
That’s up from 4,872 cases in 2017.
The report said medical malpliabilities cases rose by 12 per cent in 2018 compared to 2017.
The rise is in stark contrast to the fall in 2016, when medical liability cases dropped by 3 per cent.
The report also says the number and rate of medical injury cases are on the rise.
The numbers rose by 11 per cent and 15 per cent respectively, compared to 2016.
There were 2,874 medical mal injury cases in 2018, compared with 2,721 in 2017, according to the report.
